The game of fútbol that is.  

Cuando me refiero a leer, me refiero al fútbol.

It’s essentially like a book. There’s a start, transitions, high points, low points, and an end.  

Es esencialmente como un libro. Es como un viaje - tiene un comienzo, transiciones, puntos altos, puntos bajos y un final.

All of those things are reasons why I love to play fútbol. They’re also my greatest asset. Being able to read and understand the game is crucial to my success as a player. But before I can think about where I am now, I have to think back to why I started.  

Todas esas cosas son razones por las que me encanta jugar fútbol. También son mi mayor fortaleza. Entender y apreciar el juego es crucial para mi éxito como jugador. Pero antes de poder pensar en dónde estoy ahora, tengo que recordar mis orígenes. 

Growing up half Uruguayan and half Italian, fútbol was in my blood. My dad played when he was younger so as soon as I was old enough, he began training me. It went from backyard practices to a small team and now the club I am currently at.  

Al ser mitad Uruguayo y mitad Italiano, llevó el fútbol en mi sangre. Mi papá era jugador desde muy joven, y cuando yo tuve la edad suficiente, comenzó a entrenarme. Pasé de las prácticas en mi casa a un equipo pequeño y ahora al club donde juego.

When I am playing, I constantly feel like I am three steps ahead. It is what I think makes me the player I am. My dad helped instill in me dedication to training when I was young, and even now it’s still there.  

Cuando estoy jugando, pienso que mi entendimiento del juego me permite anticipar lo que va a pasar. Es lo que me hace el jugador que soy. Mi padre me ayudó a inculcarme la dedicación al entrenamiento cuando era joven, que continúa hasta el día de hoy.

There are a few things that I think make me stand out as a player.

My ability to change the pace of the game, to slow things down and take it back to the basics. 

The timing of my passes almost always being spot on.  

I pride myself being technical over speed.  

My first touch is key to my way of playing. 

Hay algunas cosas que creo que me hacen destacar como jugador.

Mi capacidad para cambiar el ritmo del juego, enlentecer las jugadas y volver a lo simple.

La velocidad exacta de mis pases casi siempre es acertado.

Tengo orgullo de ser un jugador técnico por excelencia.

Mi primer toque es fundamental para la forma en la que juego.

Reading every single moment of the game.  

Leyendo cada momento del juego.

At nine years old, I got the opportunity of a lifetime.  

I got to go and train in Barcelona with their academy team. It was such a fun experience. Just seeing the coaches and the level of players. 

A los nueve años tuve la oportunidad de mi vida.

Fui a entrenar a Barcelona con su equipo de la academia. Fue una experiencia muy divertida. Solo estar en ese ambiente y jugando con ese nivel de jugadores y técnicos fue único.  

While there, we did different trainings that we don't do here. I got to work on my drills and technique. I got to read a different style of the game.  

Cuando estábamos allí hicimos entrenamientos que no hacemos acá. Pude trabajar en mis habilidades y técnica. Pude aprender diferentes estilos de juego.

We even played games against Sevilla's Academy team which allowed me to put those new, and preexisting skills, out onto the field.  

En ese viaje pude jugar contra la academia de Sevilla que me permitió usar todas mis técnicas en la cancha.

Getting to play in a different setting, and a different culture where the style of fútbol is so different has really helped to improve skill.

Jugar en un entorno diferente y en una cultura diferente, donde el estilo de fútbol es tan diferente, realmente ha ayudado a mejorar mis habilidades.

As I mentioned, one of the reasons I love fútbol as much as I do is because of Uruguay. I have had the opportunity to train there in the summer a few times now and I absolutely love it. It allows me to learn more about where my family is from but also shows me the routes to how I can become a professional.  

Como mencioné, una de las razones por las que amo tanto el fútbol es por Uruguay. He tenido la oportunidad de entrenar allí en el verano varias veces y me encanto. Me permitió aprender más sobre el origen de mi familia, pero también me mostró el camino para convertirme en profesional.

The game there is so different than it is here and even more than it is in Barcelona. It is so interesting to see how relaxed it is in comparison to the physicality in the US. They train with an intensity unmatched which makes me give 110% in everything I do.  

El juego allí es muy diferente al de aquí e incluso al de Barcelona. Es muy interesante ver la intensidad que es en comparación con el físico en los EE. UU. Entrenan con una intensidad inigualable lo que me hace dar el 110% en todo lo que hago.

From training in Barcelona to the Portland Timbers Discovery Program, to ODP, Uruguay, and my club team Westside Metros FC, the most consistent factor is passion. A passion for the game allows me to fully immerse myself and learn all that I can. These opportunities have allowed me to go places I could have never imagined. Training with them just makes me want to push myself harder and get better.

Desde el entrenamiento en Barcelona, al Programa de Recrutamiento de los Portland Timbers, a ODP, a Uruguay, hasta ahora jugar con mi equipo de club Westside Metros FC, el factor más consistente es mi pasión. Teniendo pasión por el juego me ayudó a superar todas estas etapas. Me brindó las oportunidades para conocer lugares que nunca me hubiera imaginado. Entrenando con mis compañeros me han ayudado a ser mejor jugador y me han ayudado a trabajar más duro.

My passion for the game started when I was young and has only grown.  

Mi pasión por el fútbol comenzó cuando era joven y ha crecido.

I am always watching, listening, discussing, and reading to learn more about the game. We breathe soccer. It is embedded in the generations of my family.  

Siempre estoy mirando, escuchando, discutiendo, y leyendo para aprender más sobre el juego. Nosotros respiramos fútbol. Este deporte se ha nutrido a través de generaciones en mi familia. 

Talent, dedication, and love for the game. They are truly the three ingredients to be successful. Other things like reading the game, are just the cherry on top.  

Talento, dedicación, y amor por el juego. Sinceramente, son los tres mejores ingredientes para ser exitoso en este juego. Otras cosas cómo entender el juego es lo que te hace sobresalir. 

For me, it is so important to love what you do. There has never been a moment where I didn’t love fútbol which lets me dream big.

Para mi, es muy importante amar lo que hacemos. Nunca hubo un momento que no disfrute del fútbol y eso es lo que me deja soñar en grande.

Dreams of playing professionally in Uruguay.  

Dreams of traveling the world through the game I love. 

Sueños de jugar profesionalmente en Uruguay.

Sueños de viajar por el mundo a través del juego que amo. 

Fútbol can change everything. It’s something I think about all the time.  

Fútbol puede cambiar todo. Es algo en lo que pienso todo el día. 

Fútbol is everything. It's in my veins. It’s in my family. It’s in my culture.

I am only 14 but fútbol is for me.  

I want to keep learning.  

I want to keep training.  

I want to keep growing.  

I want to keep reading the game.

And I want to keep enjoying the best sport on earth!

Tengo solamente 14 años pero el fútbol es para mi. 

Quiero continuar aprendiendo.

Quiero continuar entrenando.

Quiero continuar creciendo.
