I’m here to be happy

Ethan Jam is a 10-year-old left-wing back who plays for Barca Academy Pro. He is based in Miami, FL, and is of Peruvian, Venezuelan, and American descent.

Football is everything.  

It has opened my eyes to so many things.  

It has helped me accomplish my goals. 

It has made me happy. 

At the end of the day, I am here to be happy. 

Even though I am only ten, I know that football is what I want to do. From when I was four, playing with a little ball to now, it has always been because of fun.   

I started because of my parents but the dream is mine, and mine alone. My parents constantly support me in everything I do. They want me to write my own story.  

My love for soccer comes from my heart and my head. It comes from my relationship with my dad. It comes from the feeling I get when I run on the field. Those things make me love it, especially the trophies and wins.   

When my heart tells me to do something, I listen to it which makes me follow my dreams and helps my teammates follow theirs. My teammates are always supporting me, and we cheer each other on which makes it even happier.  

Because I love football so much, it doesn’t feel hard to train or practice every day. I like to work on my shots, dribbling, and fitness to make me better. Every day my teammates and I train to get better, we work on our passing, and we take every advantage we can to become better.  

Everything in my life revolves around football. It is where I have my friends. It is where I have my passion. It is where I have my heart.   

Having passion makes me a better player and helps me to get to higher levels. I always say “En el campo no perdono pero luego somos amigos,” which means “On the field, I don't forgive but afterward we are friends.” 

Playing at Barca has given me many opportunities. I got to go to Spain and the Dominican Republic to play football which only made me love it more. In Spain, we got to experience playing higher-level teams, learn new styles, and get better.  

One memory that stands out to me is when we played against Japan. They played fast, quick, and even though we lost it was so fun to learn from the game.  

I always want to be the best player I can be which means learning everything I can. My dad always says, “Keep your head up so you can continue to get better and better every day”  

When I think about my biggest soccer dream it isn’t a trophy, it is playing in a big stadium. Selling out crowds who are cheering for me and my team. Obviously, the World Cup would be cool, but I really just want to play on the biggest stage.  

With football it opens my eyes to travel and the world.  

With football look at everything I can accomplish. 

With football, I have best friends. 

With football, I can follow my dreams.  

With football, I am happy. 

Tomorrow, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I am going to dream big and get after it because I am here to be happy. 

Fútbol es todo. 

Me ha abierto los ojos a tantas cosas. 

Me ha ayudado a lograr mis objetivos. 

Me ha hecho feliz. 

Al final del día, estoy aquí para ser feliz. 

Aunque sólo tengo diez años, sé que lo que quiero hacer es fútbol. Desde que tenía cuatro años, jugaba 

con una pelotita, siempre ha sido por diversión. 

Empecé gracias a mis padres pero el sueño es mío y sólo mío. Mis padres 

Me apoyan constantemente en todo lo que hago. Quieren que escriba mi propia historia. 

Mi amor por el fútbol viene de mi corazón y de mi mente. Viene de mi relación con mi 

papá. Proviene de la sensación que tengo cuando corro sobre el campo de juego. Esas cosas me hacen amar el fútbol, 

Especialmente los trofeos y victorias. 

Cuando mi corazón me dice que haga algo, lo escucho, lo que me hace seguir mis sueños y ayuda a mis compañeros a seguir los suyos. Mis compañeros siempre me apoyan y nos animamos unos a otros, lo que me hace a aún más feliz. 

Como amo tanto el fútbol, no me resulta difícil entrenar o practicar todos los días. Me gusta trabajar en mis tiros al arco, gambetiar y en mi forma física para mejorar. Todos los días, mis compañeros y yo entrenamos para mejorar, trabajamos en nuestros pases y aprovechamos todas las ventajas que podemos para mejorar. 

Todo en mi vida gira en torno al fútbol. Es donde tengo a mis amigos. Es donde tengo mi pasión. Es donde tengo mi corazón. 

Tener pasión me hace un mejor jugador y me ayuda a llegar a niveles más altos. Siempre digo “En el campo no perdono pero luego somos amigos”.  

Jugar en el Barça me ha dado muchas oportunidades. Tuve que ir a España y República Dominicana a jugar al fútbol, lo que hizo que me gustara más. En España tuvimos la experiencia de jugar en equipos de mayor nivel, aprender nuevos estilos y mejorar. 

Un recuerdo que me llama la atención es cuando jugamos contra Japón. Jugaron rápido, rápido y, aunque perdimos, fue muy divertido aprender del juego. 

Siempre quiero ser el mejor jugador posible, lo que significa aprender todo lo que pueda. Mi papá siempre dice: "Siempre con el espiritu alto para que puedas seguir mejorando cada día". 

Cuando pienso en mi mayor sueño futbolístico no es un trofeo, es jugar en un gran estadio. Viendo multitudes que me animan a mí y a mi equipo. Obviamente, el Mundial sería genial, pero lo único que quiero es jugar en un escenario más grande. 

Con el fútbol me abre los ojos a viajar por el mundo. 

Con el fútbol miro todo lo que puedo lograr. 

Con el fútbol tengo mejores amigos. 

Con el fútbol puedo seguir mis sueños. 

Con el fútbol estoy feliz. 

En el futuro no sé qué va a pasar pero voy a soñar en grande y perseguirlo porque estoy aquí para ser feliz.
